Higher education in Lebanon has long enjoyed an excellent reputation, but since the civil war, the reputation of Lebanese universities has been gradually declining, due to political and security instability, an endemic economic crisis and of course the COVID 19 pandemic. These crises threaten the collapse of state institutions and particularly affect higher education. How do we measure the impact of these crises on the university? What are the consequences for the freedom to study, research and teach? To answer these questions, we will first discuss the current crisis, then we will focus on its impact on universities, and finally we will look at the consequences and the adaptation strategies.
